VARMECKY – John A., 82, of Johnstown, died April 8, 2024, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born January 21, 1942, in Johnstown, the son of John S. and Josephine (Tomkowski) Varmecky. Preceded in death by his parents. Survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elaine (Labosky) Varmecky; children: John J. married to Terrie (Bailey) Varmecky, Jennifer Varmecky, Jill Varmecky married to Bryan Ergler, and Michael married to Stacy (Levis) Varmecky; grandchildren: Sierra, Zane, Liam and Connor; and brother, James R. Varmecky. John retired from the Greater Johnstown School District where he was an art teacher. He also taught adult art classes at the Community Arts Center and at the Bottle Works in Cambria City. In his younger days, John would attend art shows where he sold many of his paintings. He loved to work in his garden planting flowers and trees. John was an Elder and member of the East Hills Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where later in life he put his energy into ministry where he enjoyed teaching the Bible and Shepherding others. Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, Inc., 710 Broad Street where a Memorial Talk will be held 10 a.m. Friday by Elder Frank Ambrose. Private interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery.
