Gary Petak Obituary

PETAK – Gary Gerard, 66, born and raised in Johnstown, PA, died March 12, 2024, at Willowbrook Place in Littleton, CO. Born August 8, 1957, in Johnstown the son of Edward J. “Frog” and Georgiann (Fesko) Petak. Preceded in death by his father (2016); and brother, Vincent Petak (2019). Survived by his wife, Jean (Foley); his two daughters from his first marriage to Carol (McMauslin), Kelly Marie of Lakewood, CO and Lisa Faye (Christopher Dalbey) and grandchildren, Jasper Edward and Georgia Faye Dalbey of Santa Barbara, CA; mother, Georgiann (Fesko) Petak; brothers and sisters; Gerianne, (Leonard) Sabato, Springfield, PA; Maribeth, (Ernest) McClelland, Pittsburgh; Rosanne, (Patrick) Beckerle, State College, PA; Jacqueline, (Mark) Pavlosky, Aaken, SC; Richard, (Toni Cislo) Johnstown, PA; Aileen, (John) McDermott, Confluence, PA; Pamela Dingman, Cary, NC; Melissa, (Steve) Reynolds, Reisterstown, MD; and Joseph, (Tammy Roles), Johnstown. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gary graduated from Johnstown High School in 1975 and Penn State University in 1979 with a degree in finance. Family lore says that he hit the road after Penn State with two best friends for a cross-country road trip and eventually landed in Denver, CO. Gary was a banker—by profession and by passion—and spent most of his career at Key Bank and United Western, where he served as Chief Credit Officer until his retirement in 2011.  While Gary loved his life in Colorado, his heart remained in western Pennsylvania. Gary was a huge sports fan, but despite spending years on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, his allegiances always remained with the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, and his beloved Nittany Lions.

According to his wishes, cremation will take place in Colorado where a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor at the Columbine Country Club, April 7, 2024, from 1PM to 4PM. Gary’s ashes will be buried alongside his late father and brother, Vincent. A gathering and visitation will be held in Johnstown, PA on June 7, 2024, from 5PM to 8PM at the Francis G Ozog Funeral Home Inc. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish June 8, 2024, at 1PM. Committal will follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that charitable contributions in memory of Gary G. Petak be made to Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026, www.brainsupportnetwork.org.
